Boom!

Most animals don't care for loud noises. However, Fluffy always seemed more skittish towards strange and loud noises than the average animal. I'm sure it had to do with the fact that she lived outside for the first part of her life and she had to be on alert for anything that might pose a danger to her. Michele and I always thought Fluffy had the best sleep of her life when she decided to move into our house. She slept comfortably knowing she was secure.

Given all of this and our past experience with Fluffy we knew that we should make sure she was inside when the fireworks started on the 4th of July. I believe the first year, Fluffy was still outside when the fireworks started. We went up and down the street calling out for her and looking for her. We did not see her until well after the fireworks had stopped or slowed down. I'm pretty sure she found a spot that she thought was safe and just waited there.

We learned after that experience to make sure she was inside well before the fireworks would start on the 4th. Even when she was inside with us while the fireworks were going off, we would have to sit next to her and comfort her, just letting her know it was okay. I'm sure at some points, she would just go to our bedroom and slide under the bed and hide there until everything was over. I remember last year, she wanted to go out on the deck while the fireworks were going off. I thought are you starting to get brave or you really have no idea what is going on out there. It was the case of not knowing what was going on out there. She went out onto the deck, she sat down and boom. After hearing the loud sound, she quickly made her way back to the door to come back inside. She decided it might be better to go laydown on her towel and and feel safe and secure.

This past 4th of July it crossed my mind, just how much time we would spend with Fluffy making sure she was okay. I have no doubt that Fluffy was appreciative of being inside during the 4th of July with us, rather than being outside in the scary world full of frightening loud noises. We hope that you and your animals had a happy and safe 4th of July!
